COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Sirene Blair was named the Mountain West women's co-golfer of the month for September, the league office announced Wednesday. With her award, the Aztec freshman garnered the first conference accolade of her career after posting a pair of top-10 finishes in her first two collegiate tournaments last month.
Blair tied for sixth out of 63 players at the season-opening Minnesota Invitational on Sept. 16-17, firing a combined 10-over par 226 (73-77-76) to help the Aztecs tie for fourth in the team standings at the par-72, 6,119-yard Minikahda Club in Minneapolis.
The following weekend on Sept. 20-21, the South Jordan, Utah native tied for third out of 90 individuals at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational after carding a 4-under 215 (72-71-72) at the par-73, 6,119-yard University of New Mexico Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M. Blair drained 12 birdies during the 54-hole event and bested 34 other conference competitors in the tournament field that consisted of 16 schools, including six from the MW.
For the season, Blair owns a 73.50 stroke average and landed at No. 51 in the latest Golfweek individual collegiate rankings.
Blair and the Aztecs return to the course next week when they travel to the Lone Star State for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, Oct. 13-15, in Austin, Texas.
