First-year head coach Emilee Klein announced Friday the San Diego State women's golf team's schedule for the upcoming 2009-10 campaign. The Aztecs will play nine tournaments in five different states, leading up to the annual Mountain West Conference and NCAA championships.

"I'm really excited about our schedule," Klein said. "We have some strong tournaments and some others where I think we can really push through and try to win. The student-athletes are playing really well through qualifying and it's shaping up to be an excellent fall season."

The Aztecs officially kick off the Klein era on Sept. 19, as the team travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the two-day 30th annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. SDSU has participated in the last six Dick McGuire Invites over the past seven seasons, as the 2007 edition was not played.

The first week in October the squad heads to Colorado to compete in the CU Heather Farr Memorial Invitational for the third year in a row and the fifth time overall in the 12-year history of the event. The Aztecs fired the program's second-best 54-hole team score ever of 21-over 885 to finish eighth out of 20 teams in 2008. This year's tournament will move to Erie, Colo., and the Colorado National Golf Course after several seasons at the Omni Interlocken Golf Club in Broomfield, Colo.

SDSU rounds out the fall 2009 season by returning to New Mexico at the Price's "Give `Em Five" Invitational in Las Cruces, Oct. 12-14, before finishing with the team's annual trip to Hawaii at the Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational, Nov. 2-4.

"The New Mexico tournament will be one of our stronger events, and we'll have to come out of the block pretty hard," Klein said. "The rest of the season, we can really work on our game and get better and finish in Hawaii, which is a real treat for the players."

After taking three months off, the Aztecs play four of the first five tournaments in 2010 in the state of California. San Diego State opens its spring slate on Feb. 8-9, at The Gold Rush, hosted by Long Beach State, in Seal Beach, Calif., at the Old Ranch Country Club. A trip to Fresno State (March 1-2) and San Jose State (March 8-9) precede the team's annual journey to the BYU Dixie Classic in St. George, Utah, March 22-23.

SDSU's final regular season tournament is back in California at the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational, March 29-30, at the Dove Canyon Country Club.

"There are some really good tournaments in California in the spring," Klein said. "With Long Beach and Irvine, we'll be close to home and play some great golf courses. San Jose State always has a tremendous golf tournament and then we'll head to BYU and see some of our conference teams, before we go to the MWC championships. It's a strong spring schedule overall, one that's going to challenge us, but also allow us to gain some confidence and try to win some golf tournaments."

The Aztecs will look to make a jump in the standings at the Mountain West Conference Championships, which will be held for the second consecutive season at the Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif., April 15-17. The NCAA regionals will be played May 6-8, leading up to the national championships in Wilmington, N.C., May 18-21 at the Country Club of Landfall.

San Diego State returns eight golfers, including reigning MWC Freshman of the Year Malin Enarsson, for the 2009-10 season. The Aztecs have already received preseason accolades, earning a vote in the Golf World/ NGCA Division I Preseason Coaches' Poll, released earlier this week.
