SDSU Competes In Final Pre-MWC Tune-Up
The San Diego State women's golf team travels to St. George, Utah, April 4-5, for the BYU Dixie Classic. The tournament is the Aztecs' last one before the Mountain West Conference Championships, slated for April 21-23, in Sunriver, Ore.

This week's event will be a 54-hole affair with 36 holes played on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday. Both days are 8 a.m. (MDT) shotgun starts at the par-72, 6,150-yard Entrada Golf Course at Snow Canyon.

Among the 14-team field are four Mountain West Conference schools in host BYU, Colorado State, UNLV and Wyoming. Other teams participating include: No. 16 Arkansas, Arkansas State, Boise State, Colorado, Idaho, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Portland State and Weber State.

We've Been Down This Road Before
SDSU travels to the BYU Dixie Classic for the sixth straight year. The Aztecs have logged four, top-10 finishes during that span, highlighted by a third place showing at last season's tournament.

A year ago, SDSU combined for a 55-over 919, recording its first sub-300 round (297) in six years. The team had two golfers place in the individual top five, including then junior Heather MacRae (Dunblane, Scotland), who took fifth.

Toni Lutz (Anaheim, Calif.) has the most experience at this event of any current Aztec squad member, participating as an individual in 2004 (t37th - 242) and with the regular starting five in 2003 (t62nd - 241).

The BYU Dixie Classic has been SDSU's final tune-up prior to the MWC tournament in each of the last three campaigns.

Fab Five: Aztec Line-Up For This Week
Aztec head coach Felicia Brown will shake things up a bit with a different line-up for the third tournament in a row.

Freshman MacKenzie Swecker (Winnemucca, Nev.) will make the trip to Utah instead of senior Megan Mulhaupt (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.), who was one of just two players to compete in all seven 2004-05 events prior to this week.

Swecker will be joined by freshmen Anna Booth (Coffs Harbour, Australia) and Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.), sophomore Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) and senior Toni Lutz.

Booth is now the only Aztec to participate in each of the team's eight tournaments this season.

Rewind: Oregon Duck Invitational
The San Diego State women's golf squad placed 14th overall at the Oregon Duck Invitational, March 21-22. The Aztecs ended up with a 54-hole total of 988 (+124) at the par-72, 6,103-yard Shadow Hills Country Club.

Aztec freshman Jackie Kazarian finished strong with a 76 in the final 18 holes, the eighth-best score on the day in the field of 87 golfers. Kazarian's final round performance allowed her to move up 15 slots in the standings to 67th place with a 33-over 249.

Sophomore Jamie Oliver also took a significant leap on the individual leader board with a seven-over par 79 in final day action to finish 31-over for the tournament. Senior Megan Mulhaupt was actually the team's top finisher in the two-day event, carding a 244 (+28) to come in tied for 53rd.

Freshman Anna Booth (76th) and senior Toni Lutz (79th) rounded out the Aztecs' starting five.

Roster Notes
Aztec senior Cameron MacFarland, who participated in one tournament this past fall, earned her degree in December and will not compete in the spring ... senior Heather MacRae and newcomer freshman Megan McLeod (Fallbrook, Calif.) are not expected to see action in spring 2005 ... this year's spring SDSU roster is at both extremes when it comes to class levels. The Aztecs have four seniors, no juniors, one sophomore and five freshmen.

MWC Preview
SDSU has more than two weeks to prepare for its next tournament, the Mountain West Conference Championships, April 21-23, in Sunriver, Ore.

The Aztecs posted their best ever team score in MWC tournament action a year ago with an 885 to finish fourth. SDSU was the MWC runners-up in both 2001 and 2002, before coming in fifth in 2003.

UNLV claimed the conference title by just two strokes in 2004, breaking New Mexico's four-year hold on the championship.

After the 2005 conference tournament, the NCAA West Regionals take place in Las Cruces, N.M., May 5-7, while the NCAA championships are set for May 17-20, back in Sunriver, Ore.

Recapping 2003-04
- SDSU made the program's first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2001 and its third trip overall.
- SDSU ended the year ranked No. 40 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings after placing fourth at the MWC championships.
- SDSU earned their first win in three years during the fall when they set a school record by shooting 878 to win the Lady Aztec Invitational. SDSU has also recorded two runner-up finishes and was in the top four in four of its last five outings.

Head Coach Felicia Brown
Head coach Felicia Brown is in her third season at the helm of the SDSU golf program after serving as an assistant in 2001-02. A native San Diegan, Brown prepped locally at San Marcos High School before playing collegiately at Arizona.

She is assisted by Doug Barba for the second year in a row.
