Feb. 13, 2010
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's golf squad travels to the three-day, 54-hole Hurricane Invitational to open its 2010 spring schedule this Sunday at Don Shula's Golf Resort in Miami Lakes, Fla. The Aztecs are one of 18 teams, including 11 ranked in the Golfweek top 100, to compete on the par-72, 6,210-yard course. The tournament gets underway with a shotgun start on Sunday and Monday at 12:30 p.m. ET, while Tuesday's final round is slated for an 8 a.m. ET start.
San Diego State, which is participating in the Hurricane Invite for the first time, is currently ranked 55th by Golfstat.com and in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. The Aztecs are the only Mountain West Conference school and only team based west of Texas, as the field includes defending champion and No. 57-ranked Georgia State, No. 50 East Tennessee State, No. 51 North Carolina State and No. 54 Coastal Carolina.
SDSU head coach Emilee Klein, who will return to the Sunshine State for the first time since leaving Central Florida this past summer, will bring five golfers to Miami, including juniors Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) and Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.), sophomore Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and freshmen Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) and Gina Clark (Palm Desert, Calif.).
The team's most recent action came in Hawaii, when it took 11th at the Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational, Nov. 2-4.
San Diego State had been scheduled to open 2010 at The Gold Rush tournament in Seal Beach, Calif., this past week, but the event was canceled due to rain in the Orange County area.
There will be no live scoring for the Hurricane Invitational, however, results following each day will be posted on goaztecs.com.
