HENDERSON, Nev. - The San Diego State women's golf team shot its best round of the tournament but could not advance in the standings at the Las Vegas Founders Women's Collegiate Showdown. The Aztecs shot a final-round 313 on the par-72, 6,129-yard Anthem Country Club course and claimed 12th place at 956 in their final event of the fall season.

The highest-ranked team in the field, Golfweek No. 16/Golfstat No. 6 New Mexico, fired a final-round 291 and claimed the team title at 16-over 880. The Lobos finished nine strokes ahead of host school UNLV, while No. 14/No. 13 Pepperdine finished third at 895. A trio of individuals - New Mexico's Kristi Larsen, Texas A&M's Nicole Melton and UNLV's Sunny Oh - tied for medalist honors at 1-under 215, while the nation's top-ranked golfer, Pepperdine's Katherine Hull, finished sixth at 220.

SDSU jockeyed with Oregon throughout the final round for 11th place, but despite their tournament-best score, the Aztecs could not overtake the Ducks or challenge for a higher standing. Junior Sandy Kim (West Linn, Ore./West Linn HS) shot the Aztecs' best individual score of the event with a final-round 76 and finished as the top SDSU individual. Kim, who now has recorded nine straight rounds in the 70s, moved up six spots in the standings to claim a share of 26th place at 233.

Senior Claire Riley (San Diego, Calif./Univ. of San Diego HS) came back with another round in the 70s by registering a third-round 79 to tie for 40th at 239. Senior Jennifer Hoene (Acampo, Calif./St. Mary's HS) rebounded nicely from a second-round 84 and made a nine-spot jump in the individual race with a final-round 77 that grabbed a share of 43rd at 241. Junior Shayna Miyajima (Wailuku, Hawaii/Baldwin HS) shot her third consecutive round of 81 and finished in a 48th place tie at 243. Redshirt freshman Toni Lutz (Anaheim, Calif./Valley Christian HS) tied for 76th at 258.

SDSU begins the spring season when it hosts the Aztec Invitational Feb. 17-18.
