SDSU Women's Golf Finishes Tied For 13th In 2012 Opener

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The San Diego State women's golf team posted a final-round 310 (+18) on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 13th-place at the season-opening 33rd Annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Aztecs carded a 54-hole total of 43-over (919) at the par-73, 6,187-yard UNM Championship Golf Course.
Iowa State won the 14-team event with a 10-over 886 (295-296--295). The Cyclones were followed by UC Davis (887, +11), UNLV (887 +11), Ohio State (887 +11) and Northwestern (893 +17).
In Emma Henrikson's (Malmö, Sweden) collegiate debut, the freshman led the Aztecs with a top-30 performance as she finished in a tie for 25th with a 5-over 224. Henrikson was unable to duplicate her day-one effort, where she posted a 73 and 74, as she fell from a tie for 14th place to a tie for 25th after carding a third-round score of 4-over 77.
Last season's Mountain West Golfer of the Year Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.), meanwhile, also dropped a few spots on the individual leaderboard after the final round. The senior tied for 39th after shooting a 78 (+5) on Tuesday to finish with a 10-over 229.
After working on her game last year in preparation for this season, sophomore Kristina Lynn (Carlsbad, Calif.) finished with a respectable top-50 finish in her Aztec debut. Lynn finished with a 13-over 232, which put her in a tie for 49th, after shooting a 79 (+6) on Tuesday.
Rounding out the SDSU lineup, junior Maureen Dunnagan (Lexington, S.C.) shot a 76 (+3), which was her best round of the tournament and a team-best, as she finished with a 19-over 238 to finish in a tie for 76th. Senior Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) shot an 11-over 84 and placed 82nd after shooting 23-over 242 for the tournament. The Aztecs will resume their fall schedule on Sept. 24-26 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo.
