SDSU Climbs Up Leaderboard At MWC Championships

SUNRIVER, Ore. - San Diego State shot a second round eight-over par 292 to move into fourth place with a two-day total of 593 at the MWC Championships in Sunriver, Ore. SDSU dropped nine strokes on the day as all five Aztecs improved in Friday's round. Jenna Wilson and Heather MacRae both fired even-par 71 to lead the Aztecs and sit in fifth and eighth, respectively, heading into Saturday's final round. SDSU is 13 strokes behind tournament leading UNLV, but only one stroke behind third-place BYU. Wilson posted four birdies into today's round and was three-under after 11 holes, but a bogey and a double in a three-hole span brought her back to level par. The freshman is four strokes off the lead with a two-day total of 143 and is two strokes out of second. Wilson has led SDSU in the last two tournaments recording second and fourth place finishes, respectively. MacRae used a two-under back nine to get back to even par for the day and a three-over total of 145 for the tournament. MacRae has placed in the top-10 in the last three tournaments for SDSU. Senior Shayna Miyajima shot a solid 74 on Friday to move into 15th entering the final round at 151. Miyajima is looking for her third straight top-10 finish in MWC Championship action. Toni Lutz tied the second lowest score of her career with a five-over 76. Lutz sits in 19th at 153 in only her second varsity appearance of the year. Sandy Kim is in 26th after tallying 162 over the first two days.
