San Diego State Women's Golf Tied For Sixth Heading Into Final Day Of MWC Championships

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The San Diego State women's golf team moved into a tie for sixth place with Wyoming after improving its first round score by 10 strokes, logging a 30-over 314 Friday at the 2007 Mountain West Conference Championships in St. George, Utah. The Aztecs are tied with the Cowgirls at 70-over 638, and trail fifth place UNLV by just a single stroke, heading into Saturday's final round at the par-71 6,210 Entrada at Snow Canyon. BYU, ranked 15th nationally, maintained its six-stroke lead over the rest of the seven-team field at 32-over 600. Cougar Rachel Newren took over the individual lead by herself with a second round 74, to put her two-day total at 4-over 146, two strokes better than TCU's Valentine Derrey. A day after having to withdraw due to illness, Aztec senior Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) returned to competition to fire a 7-over 78, which tied her for the team's low round of the tournament along with teammate Kim Carmody (Palatine, Calif.), who also carded a 78. Carmody moved up six slots into a tie for 23rd with a 36-hole total of 19-over 161. Sophomore Maki Kamimura (Palm Desert, Calif.) and redshirt sophomore Jackie Kazarian (Dana Hills, Calif.) matched each other's scores for the second straight day, both tallying an 8-over 79, which puts them in a tie for 17th with a 159. Sophomore Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.) rounded out the Aztec contingent with a 9-over 80, to tie her with Carmody with a 161.
The Aztecs finish the 2007 MWC championships with the third and final round Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. MT. Second-round scores with relation to par April 20, at the 2007 MWC Championships, played at the par-71, 6,210-yard Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah.
