Aztec Women's Golf Remains Fifth At MWC Championships

The San Diego State women's golf team remains in fifth place through 36 holes Friday at the 2010 Mountain West Conference championships in Seaside, Calif. SDSU sophomore Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who started off the tournament with a 74 to place fifth, slipped to eighth place with her second-round 79 to move her score to 9-over 153. Enarsson had 13 more pars, but double bogeyed the fifth and ninth holes and triple bogeyed the par-5 12th hole before settling down with six pars in a row to finish out the day.
Junior Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.), who has the most experience at the conference tournament of any Aztec, shaved six strokes off her opening total to post a team-low 3-over 75, highlighted by a pair of birdies. Arcala moved from 25th place all the way into a tie for 18th at 12-over 156.
Aztec freshman Gina Clark (Palm Desert, Calif.) is currently in 24th place following her second-round 80, while freshman Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) made a three-stroke improvement to tie for 30th place with teammate Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) at 19-over 163.
New Mexico, ranked 21st nationally, continues to lead both the team and individual races, as it has an 11-stroke lead over both No. 22 TCU and Colorado State. Lobo Rebecca Hellbom is also one up on teammate Jodi Ewart with a 1-over 145, while TCU Rachel Raastad is third at 3-over.
