Aztec Women's Golf Jumps Two Spots To Eighth At The BYU Dixie Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The San Diego State women's golf team ended its regular season with a solid finish at the BYU Dixie Classic in St. George, Utah, Wednesday, moving up two spots to eighth after logging a tournament-best 309 in the final 18 holes at the par-72, 6,151-yard Entrada at Snow Canyon. The Aztecs, who began the day in 10th place, tied Idaho with a 54-hole total of 66-over 930, and placed above two other schools ranked in Golfweek's top 50, including No. 42 Washington State and No. 48. California.

Aztec junior Kim Carmody (Palatine, Ill.) fell eight spots from 13th into a tie for 21st, but still managed to record a career-best 54-hole score for the second straight week, this time by six strokes at 13-over 229, including a 77 in the final round.

Senior Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) recovered from her second round 85, to post a team-best 2-over 74, vaulting her from 51st to 32nd place with a 17-over 233. Sophomore Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) also ended up in the top 50 with a 237, after carding an 80 in the final 18 holes.

Redshirt sophomore Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.) posted her best round of the tournament with a 6-over 78 to slide into a tie for 52nd at 23-over 239, an 11-spot improvement on the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.) rounded out the Aztec contingent in 62nd place at 241.

Host BYU, ranked 18th nationally by Golfweek, dominated the elite 16-team field with a 16 stroke victory over second place TCU with a 14-over 878. Arizona's Alison Walshe came away with medalist honors, moving up from sixth place with a tournament-best 5-under 67 for a total of 2-under 214.

San Diego State takes some time off before returning to the Entrada at Snow Canyon, when it plays at the 2007 Mountain West Conference championships, April 19-21.
