Aztec Women's Golf Finishes 18th At The 2007 UNLV Spring Invite

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Complete Tournament Results Playing in a field of nine schools ranked in the top 60 nationally, the San Diego State women's golf team ended its first 54-hole tournament of the spring season in 18th place Wednesday at 50-over 914 at the UNLV Spring Invitational in Boulder City, Nev. The Aztecs logged their second-best 18 holes of the event at 18-over 306, but dropped to 18th place after seven teams logged even-par rounds or better at the par-72, 6,199-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club. BYU won the event by 10 strokes over conference-rival New Mexico, posting a 15-under 847 for the tournament. Idaho's Kelly Nakashima and Fresno State's Jennifer Shipley tied for medalist honors at 11-under 205, overtaking BYU's Rachel Newren who led after each of the first two days. SDSU sophomore Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) fired a 3-over 75 in the final round to put her in a tie for 44th overall at 8-over 224. Kamimura's 54-hole score is a season-best and tied her career best which she tallied a year ago at the same event in Boulder City. The biggest improvement on the day came via Aztec junior Kim Carmody (Palatine, Ill.), who notched a career-best 76, six strokes better than her second round effort. Carmody had birdies on a pair of par-5 holes, the No. 13 and No. 1, and ended the tournament at 21-over 237. Senior Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) tied for 60th at 12-over 228, including a 77 in the final 18. Sophomore Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.) ended up tied for 72nd with a 231, while fellow sophomore Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.), who was disqualified for an error on her scorecard Tuesday, logged a final round 81.
San Diego State will send its `B' squad to the FEEL Golf/Lady Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif., March 19-21, at the Bayonet Golf Course near Monterey.
