Final Round Pairings First-Round Results

LAKE SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Kansas University emerged with a one-shot lead after the first round of the 2003 Lady Aztec Invitational at Lake San Marcos Country Club. The Jayhawks' score of 304, paced by individual leader Jennifer Bawanan, is one stroke clear of host San Diego State at 305. Texas Tech is third at 307, while CSU Northridge (310) and Colorado State (311), the highest-ranked team in the field at No. 60 in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, are each within seven shots of the lead.

Bawanan was the only player to break par on the day, as her 1-under 71 left her a shot clear of San Diego State junior Shayna Miyajima (Wialuku, Hawaii/Baldwin HS), who played the front nine at one-under but gave away a shot on the back. They each counted four birdies in their respective scores.

Sacramento State's Courtney Cotter is three shots back in third place at 74, while a trio of players is tied for fourth at 3-over.

The host Aztecs placed three golfers in the top 10 and four among the top 22 and ties. Joining Miyajima in the top 10 is junior Sandy Kim (West Linn, Ore./West Linn HS) and senior Jennifer Hoene (Acampo, Calif./St. Mary's HS), as the pair is part of a nine-way tie for 10th at 5-over 77. Hoene's round included a 36 on the par-37 front nine while Kim was a consistent 38-39.

Senior Claire Riley (San Diego, Calif./Univ. of San Diego HS) was also in the 70s with a 79 that is tied for 22nd. Redshirt freshman Toni Lutz (Anaheim, Calif./Valley Christian HS) is tied for 48th at 84, while sophomore Cameron MacFarland (Issaquah, Wash./Liberty HS), playing in the first tournament of her collegiate career as an individual, stands in 70th place at 87.

The second and final round of the 2003 Lady Aztec Invitational begins tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
