Experience:
Sixth Season

Doug Barba completed his sixth season as the assistant coach with the women's golf program.

This past year, SDSU finished in the top 10 in five tournaments and posted the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history. In addition, Malin Enarsson was named MWC Freshman of the Year.

In 2006-07, Barba helped lead the Aztecs to an individual title at La Quinta for the second straight year and its second consecutive team title at the Lady Braveheart Challenge.

In his first year on The Mesa in 2003-04, Barba helped direct SDSU to the program's first NCAA regional appearance since 2001. The Aztecs ended up 15th overall at the regional, the best finish in school postseason history, and were ranked 40th nationally.

He also coached SDSU to a pair of team scoring records and top-four finishes in six tournaments.

Barba was first associated with SDSU as a teacher for five years, instructing classes for SDSU's Department of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences. He earned his Ph.D with an emphasis in motor behavior and sport psychology from the University of Florida.

Barba returned to coaching after several years off. Barba assisted the University of Florida's women's golf team from 1995-98 serving as the team's sport psychology consultant. He was instrumental in helping team members with the mental aspects of the sport of golf, and under his guidance, the Gators finished second at the 1998 NCAA Championship.

Barba played professional baseball for five seasons out of high school in the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets organizations. After his playing days, he returned to school and earned his bachelor's and master's degree in psychology from United States International University in San Diego, which is now Alliant International University. While at USIU, Barba was also on the baseball coaching staff.

Barba and his wife, Laura, have two children, Gavin and Sam, and reside in San Diego.
