Two Aztec Rowers Named National Scholar-Athletes

May 26, 2004

SAN DIEGO - Two San Diego State women rowers have been named National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA): Sarah McKillip, a business major with a 3.52 GPA, and Ashley Paiko, a biology major carrying a 3.70 GPA. Both student-athletes are juniors who rowed for the Aztec varsity eight boat this past season.

"I am proud of their accomplishments on and off the water this year," head coach Jennifer Zebroski said. "They are both great athletes who have also excelled in the classroom."

The National Scholar-Athlete award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. The criteria include meeting eligibility rules as defined by her institution, participating in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, participating in at least 75% of the season's races in the varsity boat, the student-athlete's head coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA and the student-athlete must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA through the fall semester of the current season.
