SDSU Women's Crew Announces 2006-07 Recruiting Class

May 18, 2006

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's rowing head coach Jennifer Zebroski announced the signing Thursday of eight high school seniors to National Letters of Intent. The new recruits will begin classes in September and are slated to compete for the Aztecs during the 2006-07 campaign.

"I am definitely looking forward to next season," Zebroski said. "We have a strong recruiting class arriving in the fall, which consists of several athletes with great rowing ability and power as well as some amazing athletes who have tremendous potential as rowers. I am excited to coach these athletes in the next four years, and I am happy they are joining our Aztec family. We lost only six seniors to graduation this spring, so our outlook for next year looks promising with a large core of returning rowers and a solid recruiting class."

Casi Boyle and Quinn Leon, both from Folsom, Calif., arrive on Montezuma Mesa from the junior rowing club Capital Crew, based near Sacramento. Boyle (Folsom High School) and Leon (St. Francis High School) began rowing during their junior years and both participated in the Sacramento State development camp in the summer of 2005. After successfully making the top boats at the camp, they went on to compete in the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Ind., where they raced against some of the top junior programs in the country. In their senior years, Boyle and Leon have shown continued improvement on the water and the erg and have become steadfast members of Capital Crew's top varsity eight.

Kaydee Campbell (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) comes to San Diego State from the Newport Aquatic Center, based in Newport Beach, Calif. Campbell, a former gymnast, softball and soccer player, is in her first year of rowing for NAC and has already made a huge impact on the program. Even with only a few months of experience, Campbell has demonstrated great power on the erg and has been competing on a very successful novice eight crew for NAC all spring. A senior at Santa Margarita High School, Campbell will be joining her brother Cody who is a member of the SDSU baseball team.

Mary Ann Hinman (Soquel, Calif.) and Leann Krieger (Scotts Valley, Calif.) will both be entering their first year of rowing when they join the Aztecs next fall. Hinman and Krieger are club volleyball players who often competed against one other on the fiercely competitive courts of Northern California. Both women are blessed with the gifts of height and natural athleticism and with some time and training will be tremendous assets to the team at San Diego State. Krieger is a senior at Scotts Valley High School and is looking to study kinesiology. Hinman is a senior at Monte Vista Christian High School and is interested in psychology and education.

Jaime Hinton (Eugene, Ore.) brings an impressive resume to SDSU, following a four-year stint with the Oregon Association of Rowers (OAR). In addition to attending numerous development camps, Hinton has competed in high-caliber regattas such as the Head of the Lake, Head of the Charles, San Diego Crew Classic and the Brentwood Regatta. She has been a fixture on OAR's varsity eight for the past three seasons and has witnessed much success with her club, earning rower of the year accolades in 2005. A senior at South Eugene High School, Hinton hopes to study physical therapy at SDSU.

Taylor Smith (Austin, Texas) has been a member of the Austin Rowing Club Juniors for the past five years. Primarily a sculler, Smith has extensive experience in the quad where her crew has been particularly successful, including a first-place finishes at the 2005 Texas State Championships and at the Junior National Championships in 2004. A senior at Westlake High School, Smith is planning to pursue a double major in political science and communication at SDSU.

Christina Vu (San Jose, Calif.) will be joining the Aztecs from the Los Gatos Rowing Club where she is in her second year as a coxswain. Though only in her second year, Vu has already demonstrated the necessary skills that it takes to become a successful coxswain and will have an immediate positive impact on the team. She is a senior at Archbishop Mitty High School and is interested in studying interior design and business upon her arrival on The Mesa next fall.
