This Week
The San Diego State rowing program will be in Marina del Rey on Saturday to compete in the Norman P. Miller Cup. The invitational event will be hosted by UCLA and features 28 events and 11 participating schools. Preliminary races will be held in the morning, with the first and second-place finishers in each heat qualifying for the grand and petite finals, respectively. Finals will be held in the afternoon. The regatta is scheduled to get underway at 8 a.m. with the last crews racing at 1:24 p.m. SDSU enters the weekend after a sweep of competition at the San Diego City Championships. SDSU has won the Patty Wyatt Cup seven-consecutive times.

Aztec Coaching Staff
SDSU is led by fifth-year head coach Scott Steckel. Steckel is assisted by Kevin Waldick, who is in his fourth year with the Aztec program and first-year assistant Meredith Johnson. Steckel is a 1994 graduate of San Diego State and has coached the program since 1993 when it was a club sport. Waldick is also an SDSU alum and rowed on the school's men's club team from 1992-96. Johnson is also a graduate of SDSU and was an All-American rower for the Aztecs in 2000.

Looking Ahead
The team is schedule to compete at the WIRA Championships on May 4-5. The squad closes out the season on May 18-19 at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships. Recapping The S.D. City Championships

Recapping The S.D. City Championships
SDSU won its seventh straight city championship April 13 on Mission Bay, sweeping the competition in all five events. The event serves as championship between in-city rivals SDSU, USD and UCSD. The Aztecs' varsity eight boat took first after a slow start. The team made a power move at the halfway point of the race to win in open water with a time of 7:07.07. USD clocked in at 7:13.20. SDSU's A and B boats placed 1-2 in the novice four competition with times of 8:15.84 and 8:29.12, respectively. Other Aztec wins came in the novice four (8:15.84), novice eight (7:21.31) and varsity four (7:38.94).
