SDSU Crew to Compete in San Diego City Championships
After wrapping up the weekend with a third-place finish at the 34th Annual San Diego Crew Classic, the San Diego State rowing team preps for the San Diego City Championships, which will be held Sunday at Tecolote Channel on Mission Bay. The Aztecs' first race begins at 7:30 a.m. and the Championships will conclude around 11 a.m.

A Look Back at the 2006 San Diego City Championships
Despite a strong tide and headwind, the San Diego State women's rowing team left most of the competition in its wake Saturday morning at the San Diego City Championships, held at Tecolote Channel on Mission Bay. The Aztecs closed out their last home regatta of the season in dominant fashion, capturing four of five races by a winning margin of no less than 12.8 seconds.

Among the many highlights for the Aztecs was an impressive victory by the varsity eight boat, which crossed the finish line with a winning time of 7:26.3, comfortably ahead of cross-town rivals San Diego (7:39.1) and UC San Diego (7:47.2).

SDSU enjoyed decisive wins in three other events as well. In the junior varsity eight race, the Aztecs' `A' boat clocked in with a time of 7:28.9, over 16 seconds in front of second-place San Diego (7:45.1). The scarlet and black also emerged triumphant in the varsity four category with a time of 8:52.2, ahead of UCSD (9:08.1) and USD (9:34.3).

Meanwhile, the novice four boat provided SDSU's most lopsided victory of the day, routing the Triton and Torero entries by nearly 37 and 58 seconds, respectively. The Aztecs were denied in their bid for a clean sweep, however, when UCSD prevailed in the novice eight competition.

Last Race With the Aztecs
The San Diego State rowing team wrapped up competition at the 34th Annual San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday with a third-place finish by the open eight boat in the Carley Copley Cup. The Aztecs had three other boats compete in the second day of the prestigious regatta, which was held at Crown Point Shores on Mission Bay.

SDSU had one boat compete in a grand final as the open eight boat finished third at the Carley Copley Cup with a time of 7 minutes, 46.76 seconds. USC won the race in a time of 7:15.40 followed by Cal (7:15.69) and UCLA (7:33.64).

In the Jessop-Whittier Cup, the San Diego State varsity eight boat raced to a time of 7:12.46 to finish third, 0.46 seconds ahead of Loyola Marymount (7:12.92) and just over a second behind Purdue (7:11.16). Clemson won the race with a time of 6:57.89.

San Diego State's junior varsity eight boat took second in the petite final with a time of 7:17.11, well ahead of third-place Kansas State (7:30.63), while the Aztec novice eight boat finished fourth (7:26.33) in their race.

SDSU will be back in the water on April 15 when it competes in the San Diego City Championships at Mission Bay.
