Aztec Rowers Set for San Diego Crew Classic 35th Regatta
The San Diego State crew team is set to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic 35th Regatta this weekend at Crown Point Shores Park at Mission Bay,  San Diego, Calif. On Saturday, events will run from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., while on Sunday festivities will take place from 7:20 a.m.-2 p.m.

Over 3,500 athletes from more than 100 clubs, universities and colleges from across the United States will be participating in this premier rowing event. For rowing events, the Crew Classic has been the marquee regatta on the West Coast for many years and has been on the rowing scene with many esteemed regattas such as Head of the Charles.

The Aztecs will race four boats - two varsity and two novice - over the two-day competition. The varsity eight race kicks the day off on Saturday, beginning with the Cal Cup preliminary heats where SDSU will row at 8:10 a.m. Depending on the result, the boat could race in the third final (Saturday, 3:20 p.m.), the petite final (Sunday, 8:20 a.m.) or the grand final (Sunday, 10:40 a.m.).

The second varsity eight boat will make its run for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy beginning with its preliminary heat at 10:20 a.m. Saturday. From there, the boat will either compete in the petite final at 8 a.m. Sunday or the grand final at 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

The novice eight will participate in the Laurel V. Korholz Perpetual Trophy event beginning with its preliminary heat at 11:10 a.m. Saturday. Depending on the boat's outcome in the preliminary heat, SDSU will either row at 5:20 p.m. Saturday (petite final) or 11:20 a.m. Sunday (grand final).

The second novice eight boat will race San Diego and UC San Diego beginning at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday. The race will be considered the final since just three teams are competing.
