March 6, 2013
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State athletic department announced Wednesday that the school has accepted an invitation to join Conference USA in women's rowing beginning with the 2013-14 academic year.
"Our affiliation with Conference USA will allow our program to be more competitive with all of the changes to the NCAA Rowing Championships," said SDSU women's rowing head coach Alison Abrams. "I'm thrilled that our team now has a conference home and look forward to racing in such a large and reputable league."
The Aztecs enter a league in Conference USA that includes Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Tulsa, Kansas State, Alabama, Kansas, West Virginia and Old Dominion. Sacramento State is set to also become a conference member in 2013-14. The addition of the two California schools will give women's rowing 11 affiliate members next season.
The 2013 Conference USA women's rowing championship will be held May 18 at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The winner of this fourth annual event will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Rowing Championship.
