Aztec Varsity Eight Rows to Runner-Up Finish at Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO - The varsity eight boat rowed to a runner-up finish in the petite final to lead the San Diego State rowing team Sunday on the final day of the San Diego Crew Classic at Crown Point Shores Park on Mission Bay. In the 2,000-meter race, the Aztecs rowed to a time of 7 minutes, 9.77 seconds, besting their Saturday time by almost three seconds. In the race won by Purdue in 7:03.50, Temple followed SDSU in third (7:12.29), along with Georgetown (7:12.57), Loyola Marymount (7:17.49) and Villanova (7:17.69). San Diego State completed its final day at the Classic by rowing to a fourth-place finish in the second varsity eight race with a time of 7:12.78. Washington State won the race in 6:56.70, followed by Iowa (7:06.43), UCLA (7:06.86), the Aztecs, Miami (7:15.37) and Sacramento State (7:17.64). SDSU will be back in the water on April 19 when they compete in the San Diego City Championships on Mission Bay.
