Women's Crew Faces Tough Competition in L.A.

March 24, 2001

LOS ANGELES - The San Diego State women's rowing team earned two second-place finishes in its dual meet with Southern California and the University of Victoria (Canada) Saturday at the Port of Los Angeles USC Boathouse.

The Aztecs second-place finishes came in the novice four and novice eight competitions. State finished behind the USC "A" team in the four with a time of 8:29.7 and behind Victoria in the eight with a 7:05.3 finish.

SDSU finished third in the junior varsity eight (7:28.5) and varsity eight (6:50.2) events trailing Victoria in both.

USC earned a preseason ranking of seventh by Sports Illustrated for Women. Victoria is Canada's top-ranked collegiate program.

SDSU returns to action March 31 at the San Diego City Championships which will be held in Mission Bay.
