
Alison Abrams is in her seventh year as assistant coach for the Aztecs. Abrams joined the Aztec rowing staff in 2005 and assists in all aspects of coaching. In addition, Abrams manages the recruiting program, organizes fundraising events, and helps maintain the equipment. During the 2007-08 campaign, Abrams coached the novice squad to a championship season. Under Abrams, the Novice Eight and Second Novice Eight posted several wins against WIRA, PAC-10, and other top-ranked teams. At the San Diego Crew Classic, the Novice Eight placed second, the highest finish ever by an Aztec Novice Eight boat, while the Second Novice Eight took gold to become the first SDSU Second Novice Eight and the third Aztec entry to win the Crew Classic. The season culminated with a open-water victory for bothboats at the WIRA Conference Championships. In 2006-07, Abrams was primarily responsible for coaching the Varsity Four and Open Eights. Abrams directed the Varsity Four to a win at the Parker Cup Regatta and led the Open Eight to a fourth-place finish at the San Diego Crew Classic. Abrams' first year (2005-06) as assistant coach was spent coaching the novice/walk-on squad. The Novice Eight posted wins at the San Diego Row For The Cure, the San Diego Fall Classic, and the Parker Cup Regatta. Abrams joined the Aztec coaching staff shortly after graduating from SDSU in 2005. As a four-year letterwinner at SDSU from 2001-05, Abrams coxed the Aztecs to several wins, including victories at the Parker Cup Regatta, the Miller Cup Regatta, the San Diego Fall Classic, the San Diego City Championships, and a silver and bronze medal at WIRAs. In her senior year, Abrams steered the Varsity Eight to a fifth-place finish out of 50 boats at the Head of the Charles Regatta, the highest placing ever of an Aztec boat at that regatta. She also coxed the Varsity Eight to a Gold medal at the San Diego Crew Classic in 2005. In 2004 and 2005 she was awarded the `Most Dedicated Athlete' award. Along with her collegiate triumphs, Abrams has also succeeded in open competition with the San Diego Rowing Club and the Riverside Boat Club in Boston, Mass. She has competed on several levels in regattas and championships across North America including the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. Abrams eared a bachelor's degree in history and political science from SDSU in May 2005. She has earned her Level II coaching certification from the United States Rowing Association and has attended other coaching and coxing conferences. A native of Mission Viejo, Calif., Abrams enjoys running, cycling, camping, and traveling in her spare time. |
