Ashlee Dunlap is in her second season with the women's basketball squad. Dunlap led the conference in rebounds and double-doubles, earning all-MWC honorable mention honors.
Earlier this fall, Dunlap took time out to answer 10 questions about last season, her expectations for this year and her adjustments to college life.
Q: What are your thoughts on last season?
A: Last year was an experience - it was a growing process but it was fun. Individually, I feel like I was able to reach a couple of goals that I wanted to as a freshman.
Q: What was the most difficult adjustment from high school to college basketball?
A: Probably the discipline. High school was so much easier, where as in college you really have to focus, which took me a long time to adjust to.
Q: What is your rebounding philosophy?
A: The thing that motivates me to get under there and get those boards is that basically, I don't want the other team to get them. I know it's pretty simple, but I think it's my duty to get that ball.
Q: What are your goals for this year?
A: To be more of a scoring threat and an even bigger leader than I was last year. As far as team goals go, we just need to get some wins, a lot of them, and see how far we can go in this conference.
Q: Who do you model your game after?
A: Two people in particular - my favorite players Michael Jordan and Chamique Holdsclaw.
Michael Jordan is very disciplined and knows the game of basketball. He knows what it takes to be a champion and I try to base the way I play on that as far as playing a game as if it's your last.
Chamique Holdsclaw is just a great all-around player and that's how I want to be.
Q: What do you do during your spare time?
A: I love to draw, because it calms me down and is just something I like doing. I also listen to music and sing.
Q: So tell the truth, how many times a week did you call your mom last year?
A: I think I talked to her every day the first month or so and then after that it was pretty much here and there. (Laughs) I was dodging her calls at one point, but she got on me and was like, "Ashlee, I don't care how far you are, you need to call me and check in."
Q: Dorm food or cooking at home?
A: Cooking at home. I fry fish and french fries and always have a good salad. I also like to cook fettuccine alfredo.
Q: Where do you get your personal sense of clothing style?
A: We'll I'm from L.A., so I'm really into fashion and that's one of the things I want to do besides basketball, whether it be as a designer or just anything along those lines.
Q: So do you just wake up and pull stuff on to wear from your closet or have it planned out already?
A: (Laughs) I kind of plan it out. I always have it in my head what I'm going to wear on a weekly basis.
