Beth Burns was named 2012 Inspirational Women of the Year by STAR/PAL.

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's basketball head coach Beth Burns was named 2012 Inspirational Woman of the Year on Tuesday by STAR/PAL.

The 2012 Mountain West Coach of the Year was honored at STAR/PAL's GirL-E Turning Point Luncheon where she was accompanied by associate head coach Jualeah Woods, director of operations Tammy Stephens and student-athletes Malia Nahinu, Chelsea Hopkins, Khristina Hunter, Ahjalee Harvey, Chairese Culberson and Erimma Amarikwa.

The GirL-E (Leadership & Empowerment) program provides a turning point for young women through interaction with law enforcement and other positive role models that helps keep them out of the juvenile justice system.

STAR/PAL (Sports Training, Academics, Recreation/Police Athletic League) is a non-profit organization that provides over 10,000 youth services annually in inner-city neighborhoods throughout the city and county of San Diego.
