Aztec Basketball Tips-Off With Midnight Madness Friday

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's and women's basketball teams will open the 2006-07 season by playing host to Midnight Madness, Friday, Oct. 13, inside Peterson Gym. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the event starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free. This is the first chance to see the Aztecs in action as it will be the first official day of practice.
Both teams will be introduced, followed by dunking and shooting contests and scrimmages by both squads. The San Diego State band and the cheer and dance squads will also be in attendance.
The 2-Ball competition will get the evening underway with women's basketball players Shannon Clay, Quenese Davis, Shanna Demus, Kate Eveland, Desiree Johnson and Jené Morris and men's basketball players Mohamed Abukar, Ryan Amoroso, Brandon Heath, Jervaughn Johnson, Jon Pastorek and Richie Williams all scheduled to compete.
After the dunk contest, selected fans will be given the opportunity to play a game of knockout before giving way to the women's and men's teams, who will hold separate scrimmages to round out the night.
All fans should enter Peterson Gym on the north side of the facility through the courtyard. Parking is available in Parking Structure 5 (PS 5), on the corner of Montezuma Road and 55th Street, for $1 an hour. Permit kiosks are located throughout PS 5.
Prior to the start of Midnight Madness, the Aztec Athletic Foundation will hold its annual AAF Tip-Off Reception fundraiser beginning at 5:30 p.m. ($40 donation required) on the east balcony of Peterson Gym.
