Former Aztec Courtney Clements Set for WNBA Finals
Oct. 5, 2013
SAN DIEGO - Former San Diego State star Courtney Clements will compete for the WNBA championship starting Sunday when the Atlanta Dream squares off against the Minnesota Lynx in game one of a best-of-five series.
One of three former Aztecs to play in the WNBA, Clements will be the first to participate in the league finals after the Dream swept the Indiana Fever 2-0 for its third Eastern Conference crown in the last four years.
Clements, who earned a roster spot as a free-agent rookie last May, has appeared in 26 games for Atlanta this season, totaling 58 points (2.2/gm), 24 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. The Long Beach native recorded a season-best 12 points against the Seattle Storm on July 14 and also logged season highs of five rebounds and 29 minutes played vs. the San Antonio Silver Stars on Sept. 15.
Clements received honorable mention All-America recognition and first-team all-Mountain West accolades in her final two seasons at SDSU (2011-13), finishing with 1,495 points in an Aztec uniform, which ranks fifth in program history. In addition, she became the first SDSU player to capture MW Player of the Year honors in 2012 after leading the league in scoring with 17.4 ppg.
The Aztecs, under the direction of first-year head coach Stacie Terry, open their 2013-14 campaign on Tuesday, Nov. 5, with an exhibition game against Cal State San Marcos at Viejas Arena, starting at 6 p.m. PT.
