Dixon Named Aztec Basketball Team Captain For 2008-09 Season

Oct. 6, 2008

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head basketball coach Beth Burns announced Monday the selection of senior guard LaSandra Dixon (Azusa, Calif.) as the team captain for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

"It would be hard for anyone outside of our program to appreciate how very special it is to name senior LaSandra Dixon as our 2008-09 Aztec basketball captain," Burns said. "Everything Sandy has achieved at SDSU has been through the old fashioned method of elbow grease, discipline and hard work. She gives you all of herself, always brings positive energy and always thinks team first. Sandy has earned the respect of her coaches and teammates, and will play a key role in leading our team to championships."

Dixon started eight games last season, including all three at the Mountain West Conference Championships. Dixon averaged a career high 2.8 rebounds per game and also collected 26 assists and 24 steals, also career bests. She was one of nine Aztecs to score 10 or more points in at least one game a year ago. A scholar-athlete, who is majoring in social science, Dixon appeared in 68 games in her first three seasons with the Aztecs.

The Aztec basketball team officially begins practice on Friday, Oct. 17. San Diego State plays one home exhibition game on Nov. 10, before kicking off the season at Cox Arena against Northwestern State on Nov. 14.
