With the official start of practice just a few weeks away, the San Diego State women's basketball squad took time to team up with the local chapter of the Girl Scouts for the third annual Run/Walk for a New Day last Saturday at Liberty Station in Pt. Loma.

The fundraising event is designed to raise awareness of the importance of a balanced, healthy lifestyle for girls and the adults in their life. This year, the Aztecs volunteered on the race course, directing and cheering on runners. They also staffed a booth to give out information about the team's annual Girl Scouts game, which is slated for next Feb. 6 vs. New Mexico at Viejas Arena.

Earlier in the week, seven players drove to Girl Scouts' headquarters in Balboa Park where they stuffed the participant "goodie" bags.

Hundreds of Girl Scouts, their families and even their dogs took part in both the 5K and one-mile races.
