#AztecWBB Assists in Beach Cleanup
Sept. 27, 2013
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team took time away from its busy schedule Friday morning to volunteer in the cleanup of Mission Beach in conjunction with San Diego Coastkeeper. Armed with gloves, grabbers and bags, the Aztecs took to the sand, shoreline and boardwalk to assist in the beautification efforts of one of San Diego's most well-known destinations.
"Being from California, the beach is a big part of my life and you don't really notice all of the trash until you're there picking it up," said senior center Cierra Warren. "I definitely feel that we did our part and I know the girls were glad to be there since we spend so much time on the beach. People were very appreciative of what we were doing; saying `thank you', knowing that there was somebody there to help."
"We hope to instill in our team a sense of giving back," said SDSU head coach Stacie Terry. "We feel it's an important reminder of gratitude for all the support our student-athletes receive, and I am so grateful that we can give our players opportunities to learn the value of service."
San Diego State returns six letterwinners from its 2012-13 squad that posted a program-best 27-7 overall record and captured its second consecutive Mountain West regular-season title.
The Aztecs open their 2013-14 schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 5, with an exhibition game against Cal State San Marcos at Viejas Arena, beginning at 6 p.m. PT.
