Aztec Women's Basketball Volunteers With The Girl Scouts
Sept. 27, 2010
The Aztec women's basketball team took time out to give back to the local community, volunteering at the San Diego-Imperial Council branch of the Girl Scouts last Thursday.
SDSU traveled to the organization's Balboa Park offices to stuff participant "goodie" bags for the Girl Scouts' New Day 5K and fun run, which took place this past Sunday at DeAnza Cove in Mission Bay Park. The fourth annual event helps fund the Girl Scouts' Live Healthy, Lead Healthy programs, which include numerous sports, fitness, leadership and empowerment curriculum, camps, events and workshops.
In previous years, the Aztecs have volunteered on event day at the fun run, working the registration tent, collecting bib numbers and directing runners on the course.
SDSU women's basketball and the Girl Scouts have an on-going relationship with an annual Girl Scouts Day/Night at a home game. Aztec head coach Beth Burns has also been a speaker at several of the organization's events.
This year's Girl Scouts Night is also the Aztecs' 2010-11 season-opener when UCLA comes to Viejas Arena on Friday, Nov. 12. The game is being televised live on The Mtn. and starts at 7 p.m. PT.
