#AztecWBB Lends Hand on SDSU Move-In Day
Aug 23, 2013
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team, along with other Aztec athletic squads, took advantage of ideal weather on Friday when they assisted incoming students with move-in day at SDSU residence halls on the east side of campus.
"It was exciting to have our whole team out there to meet all kinds of new people and generate some excitement about women's basketball," said head coach Stacie Terry. "(Our players) had a lot of fun introducing themselves, and I think it was a great experience for both parties."
Sophomore forward Deidra Smith considered it was important to display a different side of the student-athlete experience.
"We just wanted to show people that we have personalities and there's more to us than the uniform," Smith said. "We just wanted make people feel special and happy and proud to be an Aztec like us."
Graduate assistant coach Gabrielle Clark commented that the majority of students and their parents seemed overwhelmed by the show of goodwill.
"Being out here with open arms was a great way to get connected with the new freshmen and their families," Clark added.
San Diego State returns six letterwinners from its 2012-13 squad that posted a program-best 27-7 overall record and captured its second consecutive Mountain West regular-season title.
