#AztecWBB 2014 Mountain West Slate Revealed
Aug 16, 2013
Stacie Terry, will play an 18-game conference slate this season, as the Mountain West announced its 2014 league schedule Friday. With the addition of San José State and Utah State to the circuit this season, each MW school will face eight conference opponents twice and two league foes once (one home and one away). Starting times will be released at a later date.
The Aztecs officially begin pursuit of their third straight regular-season conference championship on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, when they play host to Colorado State at Viejas Arena. SDSU swept the Rams a year ago and have captured six of the last seven meetings between the two teams on Montezuma Mesa.
The Aztecs will play three of their next four contests on the road, beginning with a clash at Boise State on Jan. 8. The Scarlet and Black has been victorious in its two previous trips to the Gem State capital, including a 64-40 win last season. Following a home date against Air Force on Jan. 11, SDSU heads north for a showdown with nemesis Fresno State on Jan. 15. The Aztecs emerged triumphant in their first-ever appearance at Save Mart Center last year and will be looking to avenge a tough loss to the Bulldogs in the 2013 MW title game.
From the Central Valley, SDSU will head over to the Silver State to battle UNLV on Jan. 18, before closing the month with a two-game homestand against conference newcomers San José State (Jan. 22) and Utah State (Jan. 25).
Following an excursion to the Front Range for a return engagement with Colorado State (Feb. 1), The Aztecs will jet back to the coast to lock horns with Boise State at Viejas Arena (Feb. 5). SDSU will then square off against a pair of opponents it will face once during the 2014 regular-season campaign, traveling to Nevada (Feb. 8), before returning to "America's Finest City" to tangle with perennial contender Wyoming (Feb. 12). The Aztecs have won five straight against the Cowgirls, including a 66-43 victory on the Viejas Arena floor last year.
After making two straight road trips to Air Force (Feb. 15) and Utah State (Feb. 19), SDSU will get its first look at New Mexico this season in a home contest on Feb. 22. The Aztecs will then head north to the Bay Area to tackle San José State (Feb. 26). SDSU has not engaged the Spartans on their home court since a non-conference tilt in 2000.
As the regular season draws to a close, Fresno State (March 1) and UNLV (March 4) await the Scarlet and Black for consecutive games at Viejas Arena, before the Aztecs hit the road to New Mexico (March 7) for the finale.
The 2014 Mountain West Championship will be conducted at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., for the seventh consecutive year and the 12th occasion overall on March 10-15. The format of the tournament, however, will change for the fifth time in the last seven seasons with three first-round games on Monday, followed by four quarterfinal contests on Tuesday and two semifinal matchups on Friday. The championship finale will be held on Saturday with a 7 p.m. PT tip-off.
