SDSU Plays Host To First And Second Rounds of NCAA Women's Basketball Championships

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State will play host to four of the top women's collegiate basketball teams at Cox Arena, March 21 and 23 for the first and second rounds of the 2009 NCAA championships. Two first-round games will be played on Saturday, March 21, followed by one second-round contest on Monday, March 23.
The first set of games played on Saturday will involve four teams in the Berkeley regional bracket. Seventh-seeded DePaul takes on 10th-seeded San Diego State Saturday, March 21, at 5 p.m. PT. Also competing on Saturday, second-seeded Stanford will face 15th-seeded UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. PT.
Monday, March 23, will have the victors from Saturday's contests facing off at 6:30 p.m. PT.
San Diego State is making its first NCAA appearance since 1997, and seventh overall. The Aztecs, who are 23-7 overall, finished as co-regular season Mountain West Conference champions and were the runners-up at last week's league tournament.
DePaul (23-9) is making its seventh straight NCAA appearance after falling to Marist in the first round last season. The Blue Demons completed the regular season in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Big East with Villanova and Notre Dame and fell to Pittsburgh in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.
Stanford is making its 22nd straight NCAA appearance after advancing to the national championship game last season. The Cardinal, who are 29-4 overall, finished as the regular season Pac-10 Conference champions for the ninth straight year and claimed the Pac-10 Tournament title for the third straight year.
UC Santa Barbara is making its second straight NCAA appearance after falling in the first round to Virginia last season. The Gauchos captured their 11th Big West Tournament title in 13 seasons and ended the regular season 20-9 to claim the Big West Conference crown.
Tickets to the NCAA women's basketball first and second rounds are now available to purchase. Ticket prices for single sessions are $17 for adults and $12 for youth 14-and-under and military. All session tickets are $32 for adults and $22 for youth 14-and-under
