The San Diego State women's basketball team, which has advanced to the title game each of the last two years, heads to Las Vegas this week for the 2010 Conoco Mountain West Conference Championships at the Thomas & Mack Center, March 9-13. The Aztecs have earned the tournament's No. 3 seed and have a bye into Wednesday's second round, starting at 7 p.m. PT.

SDSU will play No. 6 seed Wyoming, who defeated UNLV, 60-55, Tuesday evening. Should the Aztecs advance, they will have a day off before facing No. 2 seed BYU in the second of two semifinals on Friday, starting at 2:30 p.m. The final game is slated for a 1 p.m. tip-off on Saturday. This is the second year that the MWC women's championships has utilized this bracket format.

San Diego State ended the regular season last Saturday with a 35-point win over visiting Air Force to move to 18-10 overall and 10-6 in conference play, tying with Utah for third place in the final league standings. The third-place finish is the Aztecs' second best in the 11-year history of the MWC, trailing only last year's performance when the team tied for first.

An automatic bid to the NCAA tournament is on the line this week, as the Aztecs look to advance to the postseason for the second year in a row. Wednesday's second round game will be televised live on The Mtn. and will also be shown locally on Channel 4 San Diego on a tape delay basis at 10:30 p.m. Chris Ello will have the radio call on Xtra Sports 1360 AM, while live stats for all games are on goaztecs.com.
