SDSU Opens The 2005 MWC Tourney Wednesday With New Mexico

No. 1 New Mexico Lobos (23-4, 12-2 MWC)

-When & Where: Wed., March 9, 2005, Pepsi Center (12,414), Denver, Colo., Noon (MST)

-TV/Webcast/Live Stats: The game will be televised live on Channel 4 San Diego via the MWC TV Network and CSTV. The game will also be broadcast live on the internet with Bill Earley calling the action and live stats will be available on www.goaztecs.com.

-The Records: The San Diego State women's basketball team opens the 2005 Mountain West Conference Championships with a familiar foe in New Mexico, as the two sides tangle in quarterfinal action for the fourth time in the six-year history of the conference. The No. 8 seed Aztecs and No. 1 seed Lobos square-off this Wed., March 9, at noon (MST) in Denver, Colo., at the Pepsi Center.

San Diego State fell in both of this season's previous meetings with New Mexico, dropping a 72-53 contest in San Diego on Jan. 29, and a 78-58 decision in Albuquerque on Feb. 24. The Lobos are 23-4 overall, 12-2 in MWC play and are receiving votes in both national polls.

-SDSU Head Coach Jim Tomey: Tomey (Michigan '81) is in his third season at San Diego State after taking over the Aztec helm on April 9, 2002. His career and Aztec head coaching record is 25-57.

-New Mexico Head Coach Don Flanagan: Flanagan is in his 10th season at New Mexico. His Lobo and career coaching record is 214-93.

-Series History: UNM leads 17-13 (Last: UNM def. SDSU, 78-58, 2/24/05 in Albuquerque).
