Aztec Hoops' Michelle Strawberry Garners Honorable Mention All-MWC Honors

March 6, 2006

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior forward Michelle Strawberry (Corona, Calif.) has been named an honorable mention all-Mountain West Conference selection for the second consecutive season, the league office announced Monday morning. Strawberry was the lone Aztec honoree and was one of seven players overall to receive honorable mention accolades in a vote of the MWC's nine head coaches.

Strawberry leads the team in scoring in both overall and league-only contests, posting a career-high 13.2 points per game, which ranks eighth in the Mountain West Conference. She is one of just two Aztecs to play and start all 26 contests and has scored in double-figures in 19 games. The three-year starter has reached the 20-point mark on five occasions and posted a pair of double-doubles.

Strawberry's second double-double of the year, a 22-point, 11-rebound performance against Portland State, helped her earn conference player-of-the-week honors in Dec. 2005. It was the first league honor for an Aztec since the 2002 season.

The team captain ranks in the school's top five in career three-pointers made (80 - 5th) and attempted (276 - 4th), while she is set to make her 55th consecutive start in an Aztec uniform Tuesday at the MWC tournament.

The San Diego State women's basketball team (3-23, 0-16) will face Colorado State (8-19, 2-14) Tuesday at 5 p.m. MST (4 p.m. PST) in the first game of the 2006 Mountain West Conference Championships at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.
