Two Aztec Basketball Players Named Breitbard Stars Of The Month
Feb. 27, 2009
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State basketball players Paris Johnson and Lorrenzo Wade have been named Breitbard Stars of the Month for January 2009 by the San Diego Hall of Champions. Johnson, a San Diego native, is having an impressive second season on The Mesa, leading the Aztecs with a career-best 14.8 points per game along with 8.4 rebounds per game. Her efforts have helped San Diego State in preserving an undefeated home record of 13-0 this year. Johnson scored a season-high 31 points against Hawai'i (Nov. 28), on 15-of-19 from the field. The 6-foot-4 sophomore center garnered recognition earlier this month by receiving Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honors for two consecutive weeks. Wade led the Aztecs to victories over TCU (Jan. 28) and Colorado State (Jan. 31) in January, propelling the Aztecs to a three-way tie for first place in the Mountain West Conference. Over the two-game span, the Las Vegas product averaged 21.5 points per game and was awarded MWC co-player of the week (Feb. 2) for his efforts. Wade, a senior forward, is averaging 14.1 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game this season. Both Johnson and Wade look to continue their stellar play this week as both squads take on TCU on Saturday. Women's basketball will host TCU in Cox Arena at 2 p.m. PT and men's basketball will travel to Texas to face the Horned Frogs for a 7:30 p.m. CT start.
