Aztec Hoops Returns Home For Saturday Contest With UNLV
Feb. 11, 2011
Following consecutive road outings, the San Diego State women's basketball team returns home Saturday to take on the visiting UNLV Lady Rebels at Viejas Arena beginning at 2 p.m. PT. The contest will be the Aztecs' annual WBCA Pink Zone game to raise awareness for breast cancer.
On Wednesday, SDSU ended a five-game losing streak and claimed its first victory in Salt Lake City in 16 years, using a pair of last-minute free throws to edge host Utah, 50-49. The five Aztec starters combined for all 50 points to help the team overcome a 10-point deficit with 17:53 left to play. The win moved San Diego State into sixth place in the MWC standings at 3-7, a victory up on seventh place New Mexico and two in back of the Utes, who are in fifth place.
UNLV comes to San Diego with a 9-15 overall record and a 2-8 mark in league action, having dropped its last four games. The Lady Rebels' lone conference victories this year have been at home against Air Force and on the road at New Mexico.
The Aztecs have dominated the series between the two sides as of late, claiming eight of the last nine contests, including a 55-52 victory back on Jan. 11, in Las Vegas. SDSU has a current four-game win streak against UNLV in San Diego heading into Saturday's game, which will feature a live webcast with Chris Ello, as well as live stats on goaztecs.com.
