SDSU Women's Hoops News Conference Quotes

SAN DIEGO -
San Diego State Head Coach Beth Burns
"After a very hard-fought victory over Vegas, Saturday was a great day to be an Aztec with the Rebel sweep. We learned an awful lot. The game probably had about 20 different lead changes. It is too early in the season to get caught up in much beyond how critical it is to get any road victories. We came back and focused in yesterday. (It's) one (game) at a time with a New Mexico team that lost a heartbreaker at home on a bucket to Wyoming on Saturday. We have to get past them and then take our troops to altitude for the first time. It is a big week to take care of business at home and then continue the momentum into Air Force this weekend."
On aiming for nine consecutive wins:
"You know, we are kind of looking at it as three straight. As much as it is important, you always want to keep winning and any coach who says they were due for a loss is lying to you. They say it because they just lost, and they have to say that. I really feel that we gained momentum, focus and purpose to start the conference season. As I said to the team, TCU had just come off of a bad loss coming into Viejas last week. I said, `you know what their coach is saying to them? It's 0-0 and everybody is even'. Yes, we feel better about ourselves since we have had success, but we also have a whole lot of people who have never been in this kind of grind. I think we are really trying to approach it as home games are `got to gets', and away games are `going to try to gets'. This is a home game coming up, so we have to get that and to get to 3-0. We will put that in our pocket and take that on the road. We really don't look at it as being 9-0."
On the pressure to continue winning:
"I have had really good streaks and I have had some sad streaks. There is pressure in those really sad streaks, but this is a good kind of pressure. Especially with a young team, you get more confident and we learned that we made a lot of mistakes against UNLV. (When you) teach off a win, it is received a little bit better and we are able to address all the things we didn't do against Vegas. In our league on Saturday, every game was a two-point game in the last minute other than TCU-CSU, which was a four-point game. There is going to be a lot of close games. We feel good about what we have been able to learn, but I don't think there is added pressure other than the fact that we have not lost in a while. Some of our losses are not great, but we can only guarantee ourselves a ticket if we keep on winning and win this league outright, so that is our focus."
