SDSU Head Coach Jim Tomey
On the performance of his team:
"I am pleased. We gave these kids a game plan and they were able, for the most part, to execute on both ends. I'm proud of them and I'm happy for them."
On what was expected from Nevada after the Wolfpack lost at USD:
"We expected them to play even harder because of the rough start, just as I expected my team to play harder after having a disappointing loss the other night. So we expected them to throw everything they had into it and I think they did. We weathered their storm early and found a way to pull away and then maintained our lead with some solid composure."
On what the difference was in tonight's game compared to game one:
"Experience is one thing. They had one game under their belt that they didn't have prior to St. Mary's. We played the majority of the second half with four freshmen on the floor and Ashlee Dunlap, a sophomore. I talked with them about the fact that they're not a green team any longer, because we've been through this preparation and they need to step it up. To their credit, they were able to do it."
On Nevada's defensive pressure:
"We expected Nevada to up the tempo - to try and get a pace that was good for them. They wanted to play quick and we wanted to make sure we played safe. Our press break was actually very effective and they didn't get too many of our turnovers."
SDSU freshman Michelle Elliott
On the difference in tonight's game:
"We just showed that we are going out to win and we are not going to mess around with losing anymore. On Friday versus St. Mary's, everyone was hyped up and we made a lot of mistakes and didn't play a full 40 minutes. Tonight, every single possession we were thinking, 'Let's get a stop and the next rebound is ours.' That is something we didn't focus on in the St. Mary's game."
