Aztecs Advance to Qualifying Round at ITA All-American Tournament

SAN DIEGO - After third round play of pre-qualifying at the ICY HOT ITA All-American Tournament, four Aztecs and two doubles teams moved on to the qualifying draw at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Junior Daniel Jung and senior Armando Carrascosa each won their matches in straight sets. Jung defeated Ryan McBride of Arizona State, 7-6, 6-1, and Carrascosa beat Mississippi's Fredik Aarum, 6-4, 6-2.
Despite losing their third round matches, two other Aztecs advanced to the qualifying round as well. Benedikt Stronk was defeated 7-6, 7-5, by Dusan Tabak of UL-Lafayette and Christian Groh lost to Denver's Adam Holmstrom (6-2, 6-1).
In doubles pre-qualifying matches, the tandems of Groh/Stronk and Carrascosa/Jung both advanced to the qualifying draw. Groh/Stronk beat Alabama-Birmingham's Anton Mavrin/Kristijan Mitrovski (8-5) and Jaime Rodriguez/Matija Sulin of Georgia State (9-7). Carrascosa/Jung defeated UL-Lafayette's Robin Ley/Dusan Tubak by a count of 8-4, and Florent Girod/Josh Irey of Mississippi State, 8-1.
The combination of Markus Dickhardt and Dontia Haynes still have a chance to advance to the qualifying draw with their wins over Alabama's Andrew Felsenthal/Jordie Kindervater and Minnesota's D.J. Gaetz/Nick Edlefson.
ICY HOT ITA All-American Tournament play continues Sunday.
