SAN DIEGO - SDSU tennis player Juan Gomez advanced to the qualifying round of the 2008 D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships after a weekend full of matches. The SDSU sophomore entered the tournament as the 28th seed out of 256 players in the pre-qualifying draw.

The first round of play began Friday morning at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa. Gomez received a bye in the first round of action as a result of being a ranked player.

Gomez faced Yannick Weihs of Denver in the second round on Saturday afternoon where he defeated Weihs in two sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Later in the day in the third round, Gomez faced SMU's Tobias Flood and eliminated Flood in a straight set, 6-2, 6-3.

In the fourth round of pre-qualifying play on Sunday morning, Gomez faced second-seeded Josh Zavala of Texas and was downed 6-4, 6-3.

Despite losing to Zavala, Gomez advanced to the qualifying draw as one of six Lucky Losers.

Gomez will face Julian Bley of Baylor in the first round of qualifying action, while teammate Bartosz Golas will take on 29th-seeded Vijay Paul of Vanderbilt on Monday.
