TULSA, Okla. - San Diego State men's tennis player Thorsten Bertsch, looking to move on to the second round of qualifying at the ITA All-American, picked up the victory he needed on Monday to advance to the next round. Bertsch continued his recent success for SDSU as he earned a 7-5, 6-4 win against Sudanwa Sitaram of the University of Texas. Last season, former Aztec Javier Pulgar defeated Sitaram, 6-4, 7-6 (7), to clinch a spot in the qualifying draw. Bertsch will now face off with VCU's Alexis Heugas in the second round of qualifying at 9 a.m. CT on Tuesday. Hunter Nicholas, meanwhile, was unable to find the same success as he dropped a close 7-6 (5), 6-3 decision to George Washington University's Francisco Dias. The Park City, Utah, native isn't done though, as he will have a consolation match on Tuesday morning at on off-site location. The first round of qualifying doubles play also gets underway tomorrow as Derek Siddiqui and Bertsch will participate as they will face Daniel Hoffman and John Huang of Yale.
