SDSU Men's Tennis Defeats Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

HOUSTON - The San Diego State men's tennis team picked up a win in Texas on Friday morning as they defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the 51st Annual Hampton Inn Galleria Rice Invitational. The Aztecs won the match against the Islanders, 4-1, in Houston, Texas, at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
In first doubles, Achim Ceban and Giovanni Vaglietti took the first match against their competitors, Mikhail Pavlov and Dmitry Novikov, 8-2. In second doubles with SDSU's Juan Gomez and Bartosz Golas versus Laurent Montoisy and Jose Zunino, the match was left unfinished with a score of 7-6. The Aztecs were able to defeat the Islanders in third doubles, with Tim Schulz van Endert and Jordan Colman defeating David Pace and James Langford, 8-6.
In singles competition, Ceban was able to pick up his second win of the day, defeating Pavlov in first singles with a score of, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0. In sixth singles, SDSU's Andre Feliz took Jaume Farras in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3. In second singles, the match between Novikov and Golas was left unfinished after a score of, 7-6, 1-6. In third singles SDSU's Gomez defeated Zunino in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.
In fourth singles, Texas A&M's Montoisy defeated Vaglietti in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. In sixth singles, the match was left unfinished after three sets with Langford and Schulz van Endert's match ending after a score of, 6-3, 2-6, 2-2.
With the victory, the Aztecs' record improves to 9-6 on the season. The Aztecs will face Texas-Pan American as the Rice Invitational continues on Saturday, March 21 at 7:00 a.m. PT.
