Men's Tennis Cruises To 6-1 Win Against Pacific

SAN DIEGO - The No. 51 San Diego State men's tennis team opened play in the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic with a 6-1 win against Pacific on Thursday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center. With the win, SDSU improved to 9-3 on the year and Pacific dropped to 4-8 this season.
In doubles play, the Aztecs earned the doubles point with two identical wins of 8-4. At number two, Thorsten Bertsch and Derek Siddiqui defeated Valentim Goncalves Jr. and Alex Hamilton. Rickey Baylon and Spencer Simon, meanwhile, picked up a victory against Tomasz Krzyszkowski and Ben Mirkin at number three.
SDSU continued its success in singles, winning all but one match to clinch its ninth victory on the season. At number one, No. 96 Javier Pulgar earned a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win against Tomasz Krzyszkowski. At numbers three, five and six, Thorsten Bertsch, Hunter Nicholas and Rickey Baylon picked up straight-set wins. Freddy Gelbrich, meanwhile, was victorious at number four.
The Aztecs continue play in the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT against No. 26 Harvard at the Hogan Tennis Center on the campus of USD.
