Aztecs Complete Day Two of Pacific Coast Doubles Championships

LA JOLLA, Calif. - San Diego State freshman Achim Ceban and former Aztec Benedikt Stronk advanced in the 118th Pacific Coast Doubles Championships at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club on Saturday. The pair got past the round of 16 and then went on to defeat the tournament's top seed to secure a spot in Sunday's semifinals.

After going 2-0 on the opening day of the championships, the SDSU duo met Artie Burmistrau and Nathan Byrnes in the round of 16 and breezed to a 6-4, 6-4 win. In the quarterfinals, the two met Daniel Byrnes and Oleksandr Nedovyesov and dealt the No. 1 seeded team a 7-5, 6-4 defeat.

As a result of their second consecutive 2-0 day, Ceban and Stronk will go up against the UCLA tandem of Haythem Abid and Mathieu Dahaine in the semifinals at 9 a.m. PST.
