Arkansas Men's Tennis Defeats San Diego State 4-2

SAN DIEGO -- For the second consecutive day, Aztec senior All-American Oliver Maiberger won his singles and doubles matches but it was not enough as the 28th-ranked Arkansas men's tennis team defeated 33rd-ranked San Diego State 4-2 at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
It was the third defeat to a higher-ranked team in as many days for the Aztecs, which end the tournament in a tie for 15th place. With the victory, Arkansas ties for 13th place in the 16-team tournament.
San Diego State won the doubles point for the first time in three tournament matches. Maiberger and Ryan Redondo posted an 8-1 victory at number one doubles while Felix Hardt and Armando Carrascoso claimed an 8-4 win at number two doubles to give the Aztecs a 1-0 lead.
The Aztecs bounced back behind Maiberger. The nation's 13th-ranked singles player, who ended the tournament with a 2-1 singles mark, upended Nathan Price 6-3, 6-1 to tie the score at two.
The Razorbacks closed out the match with a pair of straight set victories. At number four singles, Adrians Zguns disposed of Carrascoso, 6-1, 6-4. Arkansas clinched the match at number two singles, when 57th-ranked Aleksey Bubis defeated Redondo, 7-5, 6-4.
