San Diego State Men's Tennis Team Falls to 32nd-Ranked Pepperdine

For Immediate Release February 11, 2004 SAN DIEGO -- Aztec senior Ryan Redondo upset 29th-ranked Calle Hansen at number two singles but it was not enough as 32nd-ranked Pepperdine defeated 43rd-ranked San Diego State, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon in Malibu, Calif.
Redondo rallied from a set down to knock off one of the nation's top singles players, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. The Aztecs also received a point at number four singles where Armando Carrascosa posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Alex Haerrera.
The rest of the match did not go as well for San Diego State, which suffered straight-set defeats in the other four singles matches.
Pepperdine won a match-up between top 10 doubles teams en route to claiming the team point. The Waves team of Pedro Rico and Hansen, ranked seventh nationally, defeated 9th-ranked Redondo and Felix Hardt, 8-3. Pepperdine also claimed wins at number two and three doubles.
The Waves improved to 5-2 on the season, while the Aztecs fell to 1-2.
