SDSU Men's Tennis Wraps Up Sherwood Collegiate Cup

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Sophomore Markus Dickhardt reached the final match in the doubles main draw at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup held at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The tournament featured top schools from around the west coast and is the final preparation before the 2005 season gets under way.
Dickhardt, the 2004 Mountain West Conference freshman of the year, and his partner, Greg Shearer of Baylor defeated Stanford's Eric McKean-Phil Sheng in a tight quarterfinal match, 9-8.
In the semifinals, the pair coasted to an 8-4 victory over Stanford's duo of Sam Warburg-Jon Wong. Soon thereafter, Shearer retired before the final match, conceding the doubles title.
In singles action, Daniel Jung fell to Phil Kao of Stanford in a super-tiebreaker and Chris Groh was defeated by Baylor's Michal Kokta in two sets, 6-2, 6-2.
The Aztecs kick off the 2005 season this Saturday when they travel to Los Angeles for a match with Pac-10 foe, Southern California. The match is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
