Sept. 29, 2009

OAKLAND, Calif. - San Diego State senior Evan Toft (Aurora, Colo.) has been named to the Soccer America Team of the Week for the week ending on Sept. 27. Toft led SDSU (3-2-2) to two victories and the Nike Aztec Classic title en route to being named the tournament's Most Valuable Offensive Player. It is the second national honor for the Aztecs this week after junior Raymundo Reza (Denver, Colo.) was selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week yesterday.

On Friday, Toft scored San Diego State's fourth goal in a 4-2 victory over UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos (6-2-1), who won the national championship in 2006 and came into the weekend ranked 11th by Soccer America and as high as No. 6 by Top Drawer Soccer, went onto finish second in the tourney. UCSB was one of two nationally ranked programs in the four-team tournament, while another was receiving votes. Toft finished the game with one shot in 88 minutes in the midfield.

On Sunday, Toft scored the lone goal in SDSU's 1-0 shutout over Princeton. He had two shots over 69 minutes and was the backbone of the Aztecs' control of the midfield for the majority of the match. It was his fourth consecutive game with at least one point.

On the season, Toft leads San Diego State in goals (four), points (10), shots (21) and game-winning goals (two). He is SDSU's active career scoring leader with 35 points on nine goals and 17 assists.

The Aztecs take their five-game unbeaten streak into the Pac-10 season, which begins Friday at Washington (7:30 p.m. PT).
